Making Your Own Bait
Making your own bait was the normal thing to do back in the 80’s when I started to fish for carp. Today its all changed and ready made bait is available across the counter at all fishing tackle shops. However to make your own bait and catch the fish really means you have caught the fish using your skills and guile, here is some ideas of the ingredients I used. Farm animal and/or pet food pellets, cat pellets seemed to work best, beans, minced tinned fish , peas, seeds, peanut butter, yeast extract , curry powder, yeast powders, hotdog sausages, glaze cherries, corn flour, whole - wheat flour, milk powders, grated cheese, strong cake baking flavours, bird foods, luncheon meat, kidney beans, potatoes, ground fish meal pellets, haricot beans, prawns and olive oil. I used eggs to bind it all together. As I said before I used lots of different household flavours in my bait which resulted in some good carp catches. Experiment using strong flavours like garlic oil this attracts the fish well, these bait combinations may give you an edge over all the others using the same old boilie’s You are looking for the bait combination that gives you the edge. knowing the conditions of the lake, what changes in weather are due and knowing the different circumstances where you would use the tackle shop ready made bait and when to strike with your killer home made bait, experiment with your baits be different. |
